Energy development’s false choice
This Memorial Day weekend, the stunning red rock landscapes preserved in my Utah district and around the inter-mountain West will draw thousands of visitors. Indeed, these lands draw millions of people from around the globe each year. Some of those same lands have also drawn another kind of attention – for the rich energy resources that lie beneath them. The lands debate has been dominated by a false choice between wilderness and energy development. Fortunately, it is possible to have both.
