Jason on Energy

"The United States must become energy independent.  Energy independence is a national security issue and is vital to our economic future." --Jason Chaffetz

"Government needs to get out of the way and allow the private sector to compete for better solutions to our energy needs."- Jason Chaffetz

Misguided government policies and oppressive regulations have led to:

-          No new oil refineries being built in decades

-          No nuclear power plants being built in decades

-           Inability to extract the resources found in our backyard and throughout the country

-          Ethanol being given preferential tax treatment, leading to food shortages and artificial  food price inflation

-          Expensive, time-consuming environmental review periods and lawsuits

-          …and much more.  Is it any wonder America is not energy independent?

It's time to unleash innovation, inspire entrepreneurship, and get government out of the way so our best minds can solve our nation's energy crisis.  The United States must adopt a comprehensive energy plan that allows us to develop our own resources in a timely and responsible manner without the expensive and restrictive lawsuits.  Energy independence is a national security issue.

Jason's News Release Regarding Nuclear Energy:

CHAFFETZ CALLS FOR NUCLEAR ENERGY
Opposes Yucca Mountain. Opposes Importing Foreign Waste.
Opposes “Cap & Trade.”

4 June 2008

Jason Chaffetz Statement:

Pro-Nuclear Energy. I support the development of
additional nuclear power facilities in this country.
Nuclear energy has many advantages. It’s clean, it’s
proven, and we can own the technology. We haven’t built a
nuclear power plant in this country in decades. That must
change. We’re going to have to accelerate legal
authorization and environmental impact studies to pave the
way for additional nuclear development.

Oppose Yucca Mountain. I support on-site storage and
reprocessing of nuclear waste. I categorically oppose the
transportation and storage of nuclear waste to Yucca
Mountain. The Western United States should not be the
nation’s dumping ground. On-site storage and reprocessing
is safe and effective.

Oppose Importing Foreign Waste. I flatly oppose to the
importation of foreign waste. We are not so desperate for
economic development that we need to solicit waste from
foreign countries.

Oppose America’s Climate Security Act (S 219). I am
opposed to an international “cap and trade” carbon
emissions scheme.

It’s time to unleash innovation, inspire entrepreneurship,
and get government out of the way so our best minds can
solve our nation’s energy crisis. The United States must
adopt a comprehensive energy plan that allows us to develop
our own resources in a timely and responsible manner
without the expensive and restrictive lawsuits. Energy
independence is a national security issue and vital to our
economic future. Energy policy has been ignored by our
nation’s leaders for far too long. This is an issue on
which I intend to spend my political capital in Congress.
