Dems praise newfound bipartisan spirit on the House Oversight committee

Rep. Jason Chaffetz, the media-savy Republican congressman from Utah, made it clear early last year that he wanted to take over the chairmanship of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee once its then-leader Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) hit his term limit.

And, he pledged then, he would usher in a new level of bipartisan cooperation on a committee that often earned headlines for Issa's heated and often personal clashes with the committee's ranking Democrat, Elijah Cummings (D-Md.).

Now, two months into Chaffetz's reign atop the committee, its Democratic members and their aides insist the Republican has been true to his word.
