ANWR Fact Finding Trip
CHAFFETZ TO VISIT ANWR
Seeks Solutions to National Energy Crisis
SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Third District Congressional candidate Jason Chaffetz will travel to Alaska’s North Slope next week to explore oil drilling opportunities in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The fact-finding mission, which is scheduled to include six other Congressional candidates from across the nation, is intended to explore firsthand the viability of energy production in ANWR.
The July 14-17 expedition will consist of meetings with local and federal officials, energy experts, and community members. Starting in Anchorage, the group plans to visit Fairbanks, Kaktovik, Prudhoe Bay and Point Barrow.
“Four dollar a gallon gas—on its way to five dollars—is adversely affecting all Americans,” Chaffetz said, pointing out that energy independence is not only an issue of economic security, but also of national security. “We cannot be at the mercy of rogue and unstable nations or we’ll continue to be beholden to radical extremists,” he said.
Congressional candidates accompanying Chaffetz include: Indiana candidates Luke Puckett, Mike Sodrel, and Greg Goode, and candidates Paul Stark from Wisconsin, Craig Williams from Pennsylvania, and Chris Lien from South Dakota.
